Billings, Sand, Snow Sculptor and Pumpkin
Carver David B. Billings, born in Fort Smith, N.W.T. Canada. I am currently employed by an industrial gear reducer manufacturer, as the District Sales Manager of Western Canada. I have been involved with drawing throughout my life, with some training in the arts through progressive sketching and sculpting courses. I moved to British Columbia from Alberta in 1989. In the following years I was invited to participate in various sand sculpting competitions and demonstrations. I learned quickly the techniques required to create sculptures in both sand and snow mediums. After a year of working with another sculpting team, I started my own Sand & Snow Sculpting Team “Sandemons”, through which I was able to expand my own creative side. I have been involved with many sculpting competitions and demonstrations. I have been awarded the contract to organize and run the Pacific National Exhibition's International Sand Sculpture Competition, Vancouver, British Columbia, during the month of August yearly. I also invite professional sand sculptors to work along side me to create a large demonstration sculpture for the annual Fair. In Master Team sand competitions, I have attained as high as
1st Place in 2005 and 2001 in the Master team category along with the
People’s Choice Awards at the World Championship Sand Sculpture Competition.
In 2002, 3rd Place in the Master team category. And in 2003, 3rd place
and People's Choice in the Master team category at the World Championship
Sand Sculpture Competition. Also, in 2003 I won 1st place and the
People's Choice Award in the Master team category at the Canadian Open
Sand Sculpture Competition. In snow, I have been involved with many Provincial and National
sculpting competitions.
At the Provincial level I have attained the
Jury’s Choice Awards in 1995, 1997 and 1999
and People’s Choice Awards in 1993,1994 and 1999.
At a National level I have participated in the 1996,
1998 and 1999 Canadian National Snow Sculpting Competitions
in Quebec City and the 1998,1999, 2000 and 2001 Canada
Snow Sculpture Competition at Winterlude in
Ottawa, where I attained the 1999 and 2000 People’s Choice
Award. I, along with my teammates, have also created many
demonstration sculptures for various mountain
ski resorts throughout British Columbia. In 2000, "Sandemons"
Snow Sculpting Team was named the Official Snow Sculpting
Team of Whistler/Blackcomb Ski Resorts. InformationFor more information about Sandemons Sand Sculpture Company and our services please contact me at the following: |
